On land, families can picnic, barbecue and/or celebrate with bonfires right next to the shore.

Mission Bay is also home to SeaWorld San Diego, the world-famous marine life adventure park. With awe-inspiring shows, thrilling rides and unforgettable face-to-face animal encounters, kids of all ages will enjoy exploring the wonders and adventures of the sea.

Lifeguards on Mission Bay beaches are primarily seasonal, usually beginning with spring break, continuing with spring weekends, becoming daily during summer, and reduced to weekends after summer through October. Between November and spring break, there are no lifeguards at Mission Bay beaches.

While there are no dangerous currents or surf on Mission Bay, there is a hazardous drop-off  that can be an issue for small children, the steepness of the beach can be such that misstep could result in a child being in water that is over their head. For this reason, parents are strongly urged to watch their children closely and to allow swimming only in areas supervised by a lifeguard.
