Mission Bay Park located in San Diego in sunny Southern California includes of 4600 acres, approximately 46% land and 54% water and is the largest park of its kind in the world. There are 27 miles of shoreline, 19 of which are sandy beaches. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo came upon Mission Bay in 1542, in 1944, civic leaders began a series of steps to dredge the marsh and create an aquatic recreation facility. Today Mission Bay is enjoyed by water enthusiasts and those that enjoy an array of outdoor activities in the warm SoCal weather. It is also home to many species of birds, fish, and other animals and has a nature reserve at the northern end.
Located just minutes from downtown San Diego, Mission Bay Park has a variety of waterways, inlets and islets to explore with amble water sports activities, from sailing to action-packed kite surfing, there’s something for every age and skill-level to enjoy in the water. On land, families can picnic, barbecue and/or celebrate with bonfires right next to the shore.
Mission Bay is also home to SeaWorld San Diego, the world-famous marine life adventure park. With awe-inspiring shows, thrilling rides and unforgettable face-to-face animal encounters, kids of all ages will enjoy exploring the wonders and adventures of the sea.
Lifeguards on Mission Bay beaches are primarily seasonal, usually beginning with spring break, continuing with spring weekends, becoming daily during summer, and reduced to weekends after summer through October. Between November and spring break, there are no lifeguards at Mission Bay beaches.
While there are no dangerous currents or surf on Mission Bay, there is a hazardous drop-off that can be an issue for small children, the steepness of the beach can be such that misstep could result in a child being in water that is over their head. For this reason, parents are strongly urged to watch their children closely and to allow swimming only in areas supervised by a lifeguard.

Ventura Cove - 1000 West Mission Bay Drive at Gleason Road
Tecolote Shores - 1600 East Mission Bay Drive
Enchanted Cove - Located on Fiesta Island 1/3 mile from the entrance to the island
