The 2015 San Diego Surf Film Festival will highlight more than 20 international films, with numerous filmmakers and producers in attendance, plus Q&A sessions, filmmaker panel and workshops, an awesome surf art gallery, surf legends and shaping demos, beach clean-ups and expression sessions, fantastic live musical entertainment, live art, rad people and raging after-party events. Surf enthusiasts and filmmakers from around the globe come celebrate the art of surf cinema at these beautiful SoCal beaches.
San Diego may not be the birthplace of surfing but there is no questioning the contributions and innovations that this coastal city and community have shared with the surfing universe. Early in the 20th century, visiting Hawaiians George Freeth and Duke Kahanamoku sewed seeds into fertile soil that flourishes to this day. Since the first waves were ridden, the surfing timeline consists of revered names such as Simmons, Ekstrom, Gordon, Van Artsdalen, Frye, Diffenderfer, Hansen, Curren, Caster, Hynson, Dobson, Oakey, Benson, Lis, O'Rourke, Divine, Preisendorfer, Mirandon, Pendarvis, Roper, Thrailkill, Warner, Beal, Kenvin, Steele, Hall, Burch, Feighan, Littlemore and Baker - to mention just a few. Combine this surfing history with over 70 miles of coastline, an innovative group of board designers and a deep talent pool, it to helps understand the significance the area has.
