Living Coast Discovery Center, San Diego Bay SoCal

The Living Coast Discovery Center in Southern California offers a fun, hands-on wildlife and nature experience for the whole family on San Diego Bay at Chula Vista and the Sweetwater Marsh Wildlife Refuge, only minutes from downtown. Visitors enjoy up-close animal encounters with endangered green sea turtles, shorebirds, hawks, owls, sharks, stingrays, jellies and more. Uniquely located on 3.3 acres of the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and on history-rich Gunpowder Point, the Discovery Center is home to more than 350 animal and plant species native to the San Diego Bay habitat. The Center promotes coastal resource conservation and environmental stewardship through interactive education programs, live animal exhibits and inspiring seasonal art exhibitions.  The Center also offers year-round nature day camps for kids and teens, Overnight Adventures, scouting programs, guided kayak adventures, interactive animal encounters/keeper talks, critters and crafts programs, preschool story-time, composting workshops, nature discovery tours, walking trails through the wildlife refuge, lectures, field trips, birthday parties and teacher trainings.

The nonprofit zoo and aquarium is a natural treasure, uniquely situated on the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge offering visitors an ideal setting in which to explore the amazing animals and plants that call our coastal region home.
